First a big thanks to Eric for helping me with this purchase. Wasn’t expecting to actually talk with the owner.
If you want to skip to the end, I’ll just say it now – The Alta’s are worth every bit of the price and more! Buy them.
For my first listen, I used a 15w GlowAudio tube amp. I was amazed at how smooth they are. The mid-bass punch, vocals, acoustics, all are on point. The imaging and soundstage is ridiculously good. Vocals dead center. At times when it was just a vocal, and nothing else, it sounded as if only a center channel speaker was playing. Not a hint that the sound was coming from two speakers. Pretty cool if you ask me.
The 2nd round of listening was with a Anthem MRX 520 which is 100w x 2. Way more headroom and to me the low bass was more present. Not as buttery as the tube, but still fantastic. And I cranked them, loud. They never ran out of steam. They were way more fun to listen to with high energy sound tracks.
As a note – If you are expecting subsonic bass, then you’ll need to get a larger driver speaker or order a sub. I ordered the Sub 2-10 (has not arrived yet) to fill in the low, low octaves and for HT. I was not expecting a 8″ driver to handle all of it. Hence the Mid-Tower range in the line up.
I was also fortunate enough to get a pair in Steel Blue Metallic lacquer with Light Silver grilles that fit perfectly into my decor. Wife said they looked great.
Very happy with my purchase. A stupid good deal if you ask me.
